A north face of the Monte Rosa massif, Switzerland
The visible portion of this massive and spectacular mountain face of the ridge variously known as Lyskamm or Liskamm, and considered a portion of the Monte Rosa massif, most of which is off to the left, just barely includes a full thousand meters of height (over 3,200 feet). Italy is on the other side. The far side of the portion of the massif which is off to the left drops down the largest face in Europe, a 7,000 foot amphitheater-like face with apparently an almost 70 degree slope. The highest summit in the Monte Rosa massif, Dufourspitze at 4,634 m (15,203 ft), which is 107 meters higher than the highest one on this ridge, is second in height only to the summit of Mont Blanc in the European Alps.
