Aspens, Mono County, California
Here occurred that rare event where the light improves after the camera has been set up (becoming better than that which inspired the composition). I was making a set of three exposures of a very nice group of cool aspen trunks, when I looked up and saw the subject flooded with yellow light from the morning sun bouncing, otherwise unnoticed, off trees just up the hill behind me. I believe this exposure was made before I had seen what was happening. The one before it is a rather homely blue, and the one after, which I very hurriedly made upon seeing the glow, was spoiled by the effect of direct sunlight upon leaves in the upper right-hand corner. The light must have lasted for about half a minute.
